Welcome to Mental Health Research UKMental Health Research UK is the first UK charity dedicated to raising funds for research into the causes of mental illnesses in order to develop more effective treatments with fewer side-effects. The Trustees set up the charity in 2008 because this research gap desperately needed to be remedied (Charity No: 1125538). Although some of the well-established mental health charities fund a small amount of research into the causes of mental illness, their main focus is helping those who are afflicted now. MHRUK wants to change things for future generations – and make a difference in the long-term. Unlike many charities, since it was registered as a charity in 2008 MHRUK has given 100% of all donations made to research. The Trustees continue to work with passion for the charity pro bono whilst in full-time jobs. MHRUK has increased its funding of research to such an extent that part-time administrative help will soon be necessary. However, even when that occurs, MHRUK pledges to give no less than 95% of all donations to research, and to monitor its overheads and expenses very closely and with transparency, recognising that this is extremely important to donors. - With this pledge, you can be sure that if you support us, your kind donations will be spent on our core aims to help make a difference in the long-term. . Dr. Laura Davidson, one of our trustees, is currently working in Africa on mental health policy and legislation. She is hoping to raise money via a blog about her experiences on a £1 per click basis.
Anyone interested in sponsoring the fundraising blog should email us at trustees@mhruk.org. You can read her blog here. MHRUK and SRF are merging
MHRUK and the Schizophrenia Research Fund are to merge in the near future. The Schizophrenia Research Fund will transfer its assets to MHRUK and trustees from the Schizophrenia Research Fund will become Trustees of MHRUK.
MHRUK will use the funding from the SRF for further research into schizophrenia. The Trustees of both charities are delighted with progress
Mental Health Research UK PhD Scholarships 2014
Mental Health Research UK is pleased to announce a competition for two PhD scholarships beginning September 2014.
The John Grace QC Scholarship 2014 will be awarded jointly with the Schizophrenia Research Fund in the field of schizophrenia. The Mark Robinson MRCVS Scholarship 2014 is a new scholarship founded in memory of Mark Robinson who took his own life in 2009. His family and friends, many of whom are in the veterinary profession, have been major donors to MHRUK. The scholarship is in the field of depression and suicide, and we welcome applications that tackle the causes of depression and suicide. We invite applications from Universities for these scholarships. Guidance and applications can be downloaded from the respective scholarship pages. Deadline for applications 12 July 2013.
